About a special Student

A special Yoga Story June 2008 published in the HOWLER

Arezu Kaywanfar is 17 years old, born and raised in Los Angeles, California as an only child. Despite her American lifestyle, at home she speaks in a Persian dialect due to her families’ heritage being from Iran.

At the age of six she began going to yoga classes with her parents and since then has continued on with this yogic lifestyle, taking classes twice a week with GuruSingh. Specifically, she is focused on the Kundalini Yoga, raising the kundalini energy and the chakras. This yoga like other forms, is focused more on incorporating powerful breathing with kriyas (a set of yoga positions) and chanting. At the age of 14 as a student she decided and wanted to become the youngest certified Kundalini yoga teacher, and to pass on this great knowledge to others of how yoga can enhance ones life. She had taken yoga for so many years, and it was becoming such an impacting part of her life that she wanted to explore and learn the deeper philosophy behind all the Yoga she did. She is currently teaching out of her home every Sunday morning.

After having a profound experience during this one year training she decided to study abroad for a year in India. Studying at a yogic based, international school, for her Tenth grade year. During her year abroad at Miri Piri Academy, she not only did yoga on a daily basis but began to explore within herself, and who she really was, her experience provided her with an independant outlook on life.  She is now back in LA, studying at the Archer School for Girls as a junior and has become dedicated to making a difference and helping those who suffer tremendously in developing countries such as Africa and India. Working on a few projects throughout Los Angeles, „Cause to create Oneness“ helping raise money to support and provide jpb opputunities for the homeless people of Santa Monica. Another project is „Healing Bridges“ empowering the women and children  of Africa, so that they can sustain themselves and their family, with micro credit loans, and providing them with proper education. One must not just go along with everything going on in this current day world, but make a difference and leave their footstep behind for others to follow.
